jim rivers is a dj and producer that needs very little introduction and he makes his dieb audio debut with a powerful, old school tinged production entitled >junk<. jim has displayed a huge range in style and scope in his studio work this is evident in the bulk and variety of his discography. his recent foray into classical, dancefloor friendly techno has yielded impressive results and garnered widespread recognition and praise. >junk< is a prime example of this direction.
we have put together another impressive supporting cast for this release drafting the mighty roberto rodriguez to provide us a standout, deep, emotional journey of a remix as well as newcomer and man to watch, teva, who turns in a superb, bumping, jacking groover of a remix that rounds up the affair with a bang!
when you have already spent the first half of the year celebrating a grammy nomination, an idma (international dance music awards) nomination for your worldwide radio show, residencies and tours at the biggest clubs in the world, and worked with the black eyed peas and faithless, how the hell do you start the second half? if you are the biggest export in uk dance music, namely mark knight, then you release your third epic toolroom knights mix album... and here we have selected some of the biggest tracks from the album: the first track is the co-production competition winning entry >headers & volleys< from mark knight, drew scott & hollywood hills, strict border >reboot me<, album exclusive >bad bread< by george andrews and nic fanciullis remix of loco dices >definition<.
the second part of a double vinyl sampler that will be lighting up the biggest dancefloors.
vibrations is a new label set up by christopher galloway and piers harrison of roots unit. the first release comes from the ever-dependable and very busy mark e, who drops two killer jams for the dancefloor. escape is a bassline driven banger that drops into a hefty loop half-way through – large. the flip, midnight fires, is a more introspective, techno influenced cut, with crazy jazzy drums and swirling synths. we are thinking about early morning dancefloors for this one. escape is also remixed by roots unit, who add chicago house elements within a reggae aesthetic.
after his big success with nobody likes the records that i play or youre no good for me tocadisco is back with a great new track. dr moog is a fantastic and unique electro-house track with beautiful beats that reminds to the old days of tocadisco. the idiotproof remix goes directly into the head ...

SET PHAZER TO STUN (BOTTIN / SIOUX CITY BOYS RMXS)
12 Inch 29.11.10
the recent time and space machine album released on tirk caused quite a stir. received by fans, press and pundits with a bright glowing prodigiousness, we just had to have one final foray into the 12 inch single department. the albums title track set >phazer to stun< was always a favourite with pulsating krautrock influences, nicely melded with some dirt cheap farfisa organ, freakbeat drumming and (of course) plenty of phazer.
12inch full of music with a definite sense of place. eerie synthesiser pulses, funk-infused drums and languid guitar-scapes have been part of the musical topology of düsseldorf since the early seventies: and this particular release pays full tribute to that legacy, with jagd auf den hirsch (hunt for the stag) comprising an eerie piece of swampy lazer-forest rock. this sound is also a modern day staple of düsseldorfs nightlife at the salon des amateurs, a small bar attached to the kunsthalle art gallery that is an oasis of hypnotic disco nightmares. the salon is where der räuber und der prinz made their first live appearance in 2008 (when the original composition for moogwalzer was debuted), and both members of the band frequently play there: ralf beck with his bodyrocking club act unit 4 and sebastian as half of art-rock duo noblesse oblige. meanwhile two of the guests on this release - detlef weinrich also known as toulouse lowtrax, contributing words about a ghostly maiden on moogwalzer, and thomas klein contributing drums to jagd auf den hirsch - are both original members of the quintessential düsseldorf act kreidler. salon dj resident vladimir ivkovic also had a hand in the creative clarion call for the jagd auf den hirsch (hunt for the stag). to complete the circle, düsseldorfs new resident and desolat mainstay guti wrote his remix in the middle of the night in buenos aires, as a kind of letter to his new home-to-be. there we have it: a true tribute to a city we love, with tracks for the dancefloor as well as moments of melancholic contemplation.
I PUT A SMELL ON YOU (NICOLAS JAAR / BREAKBOT RMXS)
12 Inch 29.11.10
remixes von nicolas jaar und ed bangers boogie-revivalist breakbot! matthew dears black city is an opus of bacchanalian futurism, then second single >you put a smell on me< is its presumptive climax—an unblinking industrial march to the center of the brains most neglected corners. its drums are militant, its pace is unswerving, and the squarewave synths that start falling like mortar shells are searing and wide-eyed. then theres the marbled voice of dear himself, pent-up and sexually charged, beckoning you for a ride in his big black car. its the sound of staring down the part of yourself that you are most afraid of. if that seems too daunting, theres always the dub version. when mirrored through the eyes of others specifically wolf + lamb prodigy nicolas jaar and ed bangers resident boogie revivalist, breakbot — >you put a smell on me< starts to feel less lobotomizing. jaars version is a sullen, scratchy, headphone-ready beat trip—atmospheric vibraphone samples here, stilted kicks and snares there, all of it amorphously affecting together. and breakbot has no problem hamming it all up into the sort of blithe electro-funk every prom night deserves.
the latest release from the fizzy duck label features carlos nilmmns and ian elgey joining forces on two deep sounding pieces of music. with a nod to their love of the detroit sound on >its because< and >thought pattern pt. 2<. the third track on the 12 inch comes from a new band intrasound from glasgow with mesuma on remix duties.
an essential part of the german techno scene for more than fifteen years now, johannes heil is now in better shape than ever. with his eighth studio album >loving<, heil draws both a modern and traditional balance of his life from and for the music, and thus sets one of the undisputed musical highlights this year.
marcus sur releases his first record on the deep imprint of mbf: mbf ltd.
recently home to riley reinhold productions, the label started years ago with cosmic sandwich productions, weird and disco induced, mutant disco and now is on its way to settle with deeper and soulful house. marcus sur seems to be just the right choice at the right time.
SO RIGHT (GERDS OLD SCHOOL RMX) (BLUE MARBLED VINYL)
Coloured 12 Inch 26.11.10
up and coming portuguese dj kaspar with a sweaty dubby house track and gerd in the remix! coming on clone club series which previously had the classic release by mina jackson and mike dunn. the original version takes a more dubby laidback approach with deep bass lines and a nice loose groove. gerds old school mix continues the early 90s house tradition of reshaping, covering, re-playing classic basslines or hooklines to spread the good vibes. sharp and tight remix that delivers big time. club house music in its best tradition!
